ARRIVAL ACTIVITY
TECHNICAL PASSING PATTERN. 15 MINS.
Practice Organization: Balls start simultaneously, ball gets played into central player who bounces it back to server who passes accurately through gates onto oncoming wide player, who then passes to opposite line and follows his pass.
Coaching Points and Details: Proper weight of pass along ground, cushioned lay off, passing accuracy through poles. Timing of run of wide player so he does not check run or is too slow on to the ball, be confident to use weak foot. Positive passing. Communication with team mates.
Progression: Wide Player can receive ball through poles to then lay it off for another oncoming wide player.
Main Activity
Crossing and Finishing. 20 mins.
Practice Organization: deep player passes forward for player to pass back for player to then make a cross field pass for oncoming wide player to cross ball for the 2 central players who attack the box against the one defender to try and score.
Coaching Points and Details: Passing accuracy in build up to wide player, good positive first touches, weight of pass for oncoming wide player, keep ball on ground in build up, driven or good weighted pass to wide player which is accurate, timing of run into the box, don not run in straight lines, clean finishing. Defender, try and make first contact, mark man/space closest to danger, clear ball effectively, GK communication.
Progression: Add a second defender - cross and movement becomes more important now, opposite winger can come in at the back post to create a 3v2. if defenders win ball try and score in mini goals or clear the danger effectively.
Small Sided Games
SSG Using Wide Channels. 3x 6 mins.
Practice Organization: 3 teams, 5v5 with 4 players on the outside wide channel, playing for the team in possession and limited to 2 touch, Players in a 2-2-1 formation.
Coaching Points and Details: Recognizing when to play wide, weight of pass to wide player, angles of support, attack the box, first time finish, effective technique in both passing and finishing, preventative defending, be reactive to transitions, correct body shape when defending the cross and have the desire to win the ball.
Rules: Double goal if you score from an assist from the wide player
