Real Greens FC Training session
ARRIVAL ACTIVITY
Coaching Points:
White Player 11 should focus on beating the defender with a change of pace, body feints, or quick footwork.
Defenders should apply pressure without over-committing, positioning themselves well to win the ball and immediately transition to the mini-goal attack.
Progression :
-Add support player for White Player 11 Player 8 plays the ball up to White Player 11.
Now, you add a second attacker (Player 7, or a supporting player from the same team) positioned on the flank, who can receive a pass if Player 11 is being closely guarded.
White Player 11 can choose to either attack the defender 1v1 or lay the ball off to the supporting player to create a 2v1 situation.
If the defenders win the ball, they aim to break out into the mini goals.
Coaching Points:
-Teach the attackers to have good awareness and decision-making on whether to take the 1v1 or pass to the support player.
-Defenders should be mindful of closing down space but also aware of the potential for a pass to the support player.
-Timing of runs and passes is key for the attackers.
Main Activity
Progression: Add Directional Play (One-way Attacking)
Objective: The attacking team now has to score in specific mini goals, and they must pass through the yellow markers to score only in those particular mini goals. For example, one set of mini goals could be for the left side of the field, and the other for the right.
Rules:
-The coach decides which mini goals are “active” for the attackers (e.g., left mini goals for the first minute, right mini goals for the next).
-Players must pass through the markers leading to the active mini goals.
-Defenders should focus on blocking these designated passing lanes and shutting down the options for the attacking players.
Coaching Points:
-Attackers need to recognise which mini goals are in play and adjust their runs and passes accordingly.
-The defending team needs to track the movement of both the ball and the players to block passing lanes into the active mini goals.
-Encourage attackers to create overloads by positioning away from the defenders and using the markers as a tool for space.
Small Sided Games
Look out for:
-Players ability to transition quickly from attack to defence and remain aggressive in 1v1 battles
In possession: Remain calm and look to build attack fast
Out of possession: Aggressive in 1v1 battles
Timings: 2x7 minute games
Players to incorporate skills used in earlier sessions: Look to combine and play fast
